Independent Learning Stream

Developing the Serve With Adult Players

Effective coaching styles to use when teaching the serve to adult players requires a different, generally less structured approach than you'd use when working with younger players.

In this Independent Learning stream our expert coaches and contributors address the following issues:

  • Common problems and solutions
  • Changing an adult players alignment to improve serve placement
  • How to use a tactical approach to achieve goals when teaching the serve to adults
  • How and when to teach rhythm to quickly improve an adult player’s serve

Step 2: RECAP
Step 3: REFLECT

Step 2: RECAP

As you visit each of the posts ensure that you take note of the "Key Take-Aways for Coaches". These summarise the key points and are useful when you reflect on how you can interpret the content for use in your own activities.

The learning in this stream consists of six posts; parts 1 - 6 of our video series "Developing the Serve With Adult Players".

Part 1 - An introduction to teaching the serve to adult players. Teaching adult players requires a different, generally less structured approach.

Part 2 - Richard Marklow, Director of inspire2coach, introduces the solutions he uses to correct the common serve problems of adult players.

Part 3, 4, 5 and 6 - Working with real players, Richard demonstrates how he uses the tools introduced in part 2 to dramatically improve the players serve consistency within a short, focussed session.

Step 3: REFLECT

The questions below help you to reflect on the learning by provided by the learning posts. Upon completion, your responses will be emailed to you.

UK coaches: By reflecting on the learning and completing the questions, as prescribed, you will have drafted the information that you will need to submit your Independent Learning to the LTA for CPD credits.
